“I have a right to (fill in the blank).” How recently have you heard (or perhaps said) these words? While demanding our rights may be culturally acceptable, followers of Jesus may want to consider where we would be if Jesus had stood on His rights. He gave up His rights and prerogatives as God in order to serve the lost and the least, and He calls us to do the same. His early disciples followed in His footsteps. What about us?

Follow God’s example, therefore, as dearly loved children and walk in the way of love, just as Christ loved us and gave himself up for us as a fragrant offering and sacrifice to God.—Ephesians 5:1-2

Prayer: Jesus, in light of Your sacrifice, what do 'rights' have to do with us? Forgive us for standing on our rights, instead of kneeling to serve. Create in us a humble Jesus-like spirit. Shape us to serve like You as we come before the Father in Your name, amen.
