Don’t Give Up

Don’t Give Up

Nearing the end of his life and ministry, Paul writes to Timothy, his protégée and trusted colleague. His purpose is to strengthen Timothy in the midst of ongoing leadership challenges. Paul reaffirms the essentials of faith and practice, and urges Timothy to feed on Scripture and focus on fulfilling his God-given calling. Leadership, within or without the church, is difficult. Where do you need strength to persevere in life and leadership?

Be diligent in these matters; give yourself wholly to them, so that everyone may see your progress. Watch your life and doctrine closely. Persevere in them, because if you do, you will save both yourself and your hearers.—1 Timothy 4:15-16

Prayer: God, You know where we are tempted to give up, to revert to old patterns and behaviors in leadership. Renew our minds, revive our spirits, refresh and strengthen us with Your Word and Your Spirit. We know others are watching; may they see in us a new and different way to lead, in Jesus’ name, amen.
