One Year Later: Vietnamese Ministry Flourishing

Just one year into the official launch of ministry in Vietnam, on-the-ground partners are already having tremendous impact as they inspire and equip others to lead like Jesus.

“Vietnam has wings, and they are taking off,” says Jim Montgomery, chief international officer.

Approximately 70 people were involved in the first Lead Like Jesus training event that took place in October 2015. Since that time, the Vietnam team has ministered to hundreds more leaders throughout their country, including in Dalat, Ho Chi Minh City, and Danang.

“The enthusiasm and excitement with which the Vietnamese are embracing Jesus as their role model for leadership is such an encouragement to us and others,” says Montgomery. “They are a testimony of those walking out their faith with passion and diligence.”

Testimonies are pouring in from participants who report that Lead Like Jesus has brought new hope, insight, and transformation into their lives and leadership.

“I realized the presence of God in my life,” writes Thanh Tâm from Dalat. “I know this is a long journey ahead; however, Lead Like Jesus has provided the guideline, the support for me. I
feel like God is always beside me, and He calls me to serve more as a Christian. It must be a start for me to live like Jesus; I have to lead myself.”

“Lead Like Jesus is a transformation journey, not like other leadership trainings,” says Nhom Lua Yeu Thuong. “It’s about life direction, not about skills. It’s a transformation as we are called by Jesus. I am glad that I am called, and am encouraged to pursue this life direction.”

Through in-country connections, Lead Like Jesus materials are now available in the Vietnamese language, opening up additional outreach and training opportunities throughout Vietnam.

“This is an extremely important aspect of international ministry, to have our resources available in the heart languages of those we are seeking to reach” said Montgomery. “As funding is made available for translations through donor support, we are able to share the hope-filled message of Jesus, often with individuals who are hearing this for the very first time.”

He adds that it’s truly the all-out passion and efforts of in-country champions who have made the launch of Lead Like Jesus in Vietnam and other countries so successful.

“It is a humbling thing to see,” says Jim.  “They are people of excellence who simply love Jesus.”
