Why lead like Jesus? Why not lead like some other person, past or present? Jesus’ disciples and fellow Jews revered past civic and religious leaders like Moses and Elijah, Joshua and Samuel, and kings David and Solomon. John the Baptizer was a contemporary religious leader that several early disciples followed before following Jesus. But Jesus outshone them all. Jesus’ resurrection from death to life affirms Him as the Son of God and the leader for everyone to follow and emulate.
While he was still speaking, a bright cloud covered them, and a voice from the cloud said, “This is my Son, whom I love; with him I am well pleased. Listen to him!”—Matthew 17:5
Prayer: Jesus, when I’m tempted to adopt leadership tactics that go against Your clear mandate to lead by serving, remind me whose I am and who I am in You. Let me point others to You by the way I lead. In Your name I pray, amen.
