When People Won’t Follow

When People Won’t Follow

Leading like Jesus does not guarantee that others will follow. This is not only our reality, but that of Jesus and His early followers. Sometimes people are so blinded by pride and fear that they cannot break free of their self-promoting and self-protecting behaviors. As leaders, our responsibility is to prayerfully seek the Lord for wisdom on how to best serve them, continuing to follow our Leader, as we speak truth in love. Jesus let people walk away when needed, and we may need to do the same.

Jesus looked at him and loved him. “One thing you lack,” he said. “Go, sell everything you have and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow me.” At this the man’s face fell. He went away sad, because he had great wealth.—Mark 10:21-22

Prayer: Jesus, help us look into people’s hearts, loving them even when they reject the opportunity to embrace change and transformation. In Your name we pray, amen.
