Traditions often spring up in families and organizations. They begin as intentional practices that reflect individual and group values. Over time, these practices that once held great meaning may lose their original significance. Where does clinging to “the way we’ve always done things” hold you and others back? Which traditions—in your personal life, family, church, or organization—create and support a culture of following Jesus? What would it take to make following Jesus “the way we do things around here” in your life and family and spheres of influence?

Leave your simple ways behind, and begin to live; learn to use good judgment. —Proverbs 9:6    NLT

Prayer: Lord, help me let go of traditions that get in the way of following you as my leader. Following You is my highest value. Show me how to intentionally live into the practice of following You into my life, the life of my family, and everywhere You send me. In Your name I pray, amen.
