The Difference Love Makes

The Difference Love Makes

Consider the difference love makes. Simon became Peter, Saul became Paul, a “Son of Thunder” became “the disciple whom Jesus loved,” and Jesus’ unbelieving brother became the head of the church in Jerusalem. All were unlikely candidates at the beginning. What was it that changed their lives? How did it happen? They came to know the love of Jesus, the relentless, unconditional, selfless, sacrificial, life-giving love of God, love that exposed their pettiness and greed and selfishness, love that tore down their defenses, and remade them in His image. What difference does love make? Try it, and see. Go, now, and love others in the same way.

A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. —John 13:34

Prayer: Jesus, thank You for loving us when we are unlovely. May we love the unlikely candidates in our lives in the same generous and life-transforming way that You have loved us. In Your name we pray, amen.
