Clashing Values

Clashing Values

The world’s ways of thinking push their way into our thoughts. The world asks, “What’s in it for me?” Even those who follow Jesus may find themselves asking the same question. John, Jesus’ apostle, warned early Christians about buying into the world’s system of values. As Jesus’ followers, we are called to love God and let His values drown out the world’s voice.

Do not love the world or anything in the world. If anyone loves the world, love for the Father is not in them. For everything in the world—the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life—comes not from the Father but from the world. The world and its desires pass away, but whoever does the will of God lives forever. – 1 John 2:15-17

Prayer: Lord, transform my heart and my head with Your Spirit and Your Word. Replace my human values with Yours. Strengthen me against the world’s allure. In Your name, Jesus, amen.
