Basis for Confidence

Basis for Confidence

The heart of Psalm 51 declares the confidence David has in seeking God’s forgiveness (v.1). David doesn’t base his request for forgiveness on his own broken spirit or contrite heart. His hope and plea are based on the character of God alone. He confidently trusts God’s forgiveness will meet him where he is (v.7). He trusts God’s power to transform his heart (v.10). He hopes in God’s unfailing love and great compassion, knowing that the LORD is his Savior (v.14). He trusts that God will listen to his plea from a humble heart (v.17). He trusts that God can restore him and transform Him.

Have mercy on me, O God, according to your unfailing love; according to your great compassion blot out my transgressions. – Psalm 51:1

Prayer: Oh Lord, my God, I trust Your unfailing love and great compassion, Your forgiveness, and Your power to transform hearts and lives. Give me a humble heart and confidence in who You are. In the name of Jesus, whose sacrifice brings life and hope to all, amen.
