  • Ultimate Truth

    Devotionals | October 30, 2020

As people long ago recognized something different about Jesus, He revealed Himself to them and invited them to live in relationship with Him. He lived a life of truth, truth about God, about life, about love, and, yes, about leadership. When His disciples pressed Him about truth and reality, He simply pointed to Himself. And He asked them if they believed in Him. He asks us the same thing today. Do you believe in Him? Do you believe that His life reflects the ultimate truth about life and leadership?

  • If Only

    Blog | Karen McGuire | October 29, 2020

How many times in life have you uttered those words – if only! If only I had a better job, if only I made better grades, if only my teacher liked me, if only, if only, if only ….

We wish and wish that things were different, better, less stressful, easier, etc. It seems that IF ONLY this one thing would go my way then life would improve, at least in whatever way we want at that moment.

Often we find, after time has passed that if our IF ONLY wish had come true, life would be more complicated, difficult and less pleasing. Hindsight, as they say, is 20/20!

  • It Takes Time

    Devotionals | October 28, 2020

None of us are gifted at every task we undertake. Yes, we may have come into this world with a propensity for learning quickly or for performing certain tasks well. But even if we have been gifted by God in an area, we still have to learn how to lead like Jesus, just like the first disciples did. And that takes time. Time to learn to listen to Him. To exalt God and not ourselves. To serve with love. It takes time for us to learn. And it takes time for those we are leading. Thankfully, Jesus takes time to teach His disciples, even now.

  • Once Upon a Time

    Devotionals | October 26, 2020

Once upon a time you trusted in Jesus. You trusted Him to pick you up, forgive you, and give you a fresh start, a new life. You entered into a forever relationship with Him. You trusted that He would be enough all the days of your life. Perhaps some hard days have come your way since then. Days when you disappointed yourself and others. Days when you were embarrassed to look in the mirror and into His eyes. Days when pride and fear seemed to have a hold on you that no one could break. Jesus is still all you need.

  • Be That Person

    Devotionals | October 23, 2020

Just as we need trustworthy companions in our own journey, others around us need us to be trustworthy companions for them. Children, teenagers, adults—young and old—all of us need to know that there are people who care for us and will stand by us. People whom we can turn to for wisdom. People who will tell us the truth in love when we need to hear it (even if we would rather not hear it). People who will pray for us. People who want the best for us. Are you that kind of person for the people in your life? For family members, friends, coworkers, and brothers and sisters in Christ?

  • Support and Accountability

    Devotionals | October 21, 2020

People can shy away from the need for accountability. Understandably, accountability without relationship can be an overwhelming thought. But accountability within the context of relationship with a trustworthy companion can be a gift from God and the source of wisdom and growth. Consider Mordecai’s and Esther’s relationship. As her uncle turned adopted father, Esther trusted Mordecai completely—his care and concern for her as well as his wisdom. As a result, Esther found herself in a position where God could use her for purposes far beyond her humble beginnings.

  • Resistance and Change

    Devotionals | October 19, 2020

Change is hard for everyone, for leaders and for those we serve. Change—especially change that we can’t control—can stir up fear and pride. Fear and pride lead to resistance. When resistance rears its head—in you or in those you serve—pause. Ask God to show you the source of the resistance. Is it a heart matter? Is there anything you need to confess? What would it look like to trust God instead of resisting Him? If you are encountering resistance from others, what can you do to ease their fears and help them humbly accept the coming change?

  • Mentoring like Jesus

    Devotionals | October 16, 2020

Jesus knew that only days and weeks remained before He would hand over His mission to His disciples. He had spent years mentoring them. He knew who they were—with each of their idiosyncrasies—yet He believed in them and shared His heart with them. He loved, taught, encouraged, challenged, forgave, redirected, and served them. Even now, in their last days together, He did all that He could to prepare them for the future. What steps can you take to strengthen and equip those around you?
