SLII® Certification, new Heart workshop, and honors for Mazza and Piper highlight ReConnect 2015

SLII® Certification, new Heart workshop, and honors for Mazza and Piper highlight ReConnect 2015

“God’s spirit permeated the event,” says Barbara Meiss, director of leadership development services, in describing the 2015 ReConnect in Atlanta. Held September 17-20, the conference was an opportunity for leadership development facilitators to learn best facilitation and marketing practices, discover new ideas about leadership, and enjoy fellowship and worship with other facilitators and LLJ staff.

As part of the pre-conference workshops, facilitators were offered the first-time opportunity to become certified in SLII® Connect, a practical and proven model of situational leadership, empowering leaders to bring out the best in others, drive performance and build trust. SLII® certification is now available as an additional certification opportunity for all LLJ facilitators to use with their Encounter participants, in collaboration with the Ken Blanchard Companies.

Facilitators also experienced a preview of The Heart of a Leader workshop, which is scheduled to be launched in December 2015. This new half-day workshop will be a critical addition to the Lead Like Jesus curricula, and can be offered as an excellent prelude or follow-up experience to the Encounter leadership workshop. It focuses not only on the leader's heart, but also helps leaders get a pulse on their organizational culture and plan for necessary changes. In addition to great discussions and activities around issues of the heart, The Heart of a Leader features seven short, powerful video clips reinforcing the key messages.

Two honors were given during ReConnect to recognize the ministry and contributions of two longtime friends of Lead Like Jesus.

Doug Mazza, president and chief operating officer for Joni & Friends, was recognized with Lead Like Jesus Partner Award. As part of the ReConnect, Doug shared his personal testimony of how God used his severely handicapped son to lead him out of a highly successful career in the automotive industry to become the president of Joni & Friends. For the past ten years, Joni & Friends has been recognized as a Best Christian Workplace, and Doug gives much of the credit for that distinction to the principles and practices of Lead Like Jesus, which have become part of the core operating system for their organization.  “Lead Like Jesus is the cornerstone of our culture,” he explains. “It affects everything we do.  Lead Like Jesus will make a significant difference in the culture and and success of any organization.”

Lead Like Jesus Facilitator Debbie Piper (Orlando, FL) was the recipient of the Divine Servant Award. Debbie is a gifted trainer and coach, who has been developing and equipping leaders since 1986. As an LLJ facilitator since 2007, she has not only been and ambassador for the Lead Like Jesus message in the U.S., but has also been part of three separate trips to Uganda, where she provided leadership training to hundreds of pastors and leaders. A diligent student of the Scriptures – currently pursuing her Master of Divinity at New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary – Debbie is also the writer behind the Devotionals posted to www.leadlikejesus.com, which are sent to more than 20,000 subscribers every week.

ReConnect attendees received encouragement from keynote sessions led by Phyllis Hennecy Hendry, president/CEO, and Karen McGuire, chief of staff. They also received practical training during multiple breakout sessions, including tips on how to make the best use out of the wealth of marketing and training materials available to them through the Facilitator Portal. In particular, facilitators were encouraged to help promote and spread the Lead Like Jesus message through their social media networks.

At the end of of the event, facilitators left feeling not only reconnected, but also reenergized and renewed in their commitment to the ministry.

“We spent time in prayer for Lead Like Jesus, and for one another,” says Barbara Meiss. “The bond continues to develop and grow among LLJ facilitators. We felt His presence as we once again reconnected with one another in celebrating our faith and bond that we share as brothers and sisters in Jesus.”
