The disciples received unexpected news from Jesus at their final Passover meal together: “I am going away, and you can’t come.” Although He had told them about His coming death, they didn’t understand what He was saying, and they had no idea the time had come. Why was He talking like this? Why would He abandon them? It didn’t make any sense. But Jesus didn’t ask them to understand; He asked them to trust. Where is He telling you to trust Him?
Don’t let your hearts be troubled. Trust in God, and trust also in me. —John 14:1 (NLT)
Prayer: Jesus, unexpected news catches us off-guard, just as it did your first disciples. Suddenly, we find ourselves in a place of uncertainty and questioning. Like them, we may fear that You are abandoning us. In uncertain times, remind us to trust You, to believe that You know what You are doing. Even when we don’t understand, we can rest in You, the risen Lord. Amen.
