A Leader’s Speech

A Leader’s Speech

The words we speak reveal the state of our hearts. Our verbal responses to people and situations provide impromptu glimpses into the depths of our character. The writers of Psalms, Proverbs, and the prophets have much to say about our speech, as do Jesus and his brother James. We do well to remember who gave us our ability to speak, and to seek not only to lead like Jesus, but to speak like Jesus, honoring God and building up others.

With the tongue we praise our Lord and Father, and with it we curse human beings, who have   been made in God’s likeness. Out of the same mouth come praise and cursing. My brothers and sisters, this should not be. —James 3:9-10

Prayer: God, thank You for the ability to communicate with others. May the transformation You are working within us reshape how we think and speak. Let us take seriously the exhortation to build up one another by speaking the truth in love. In Jesus’ name, amen.
