Humility has a bad reputation in many circles of leadership, even among some Christians. Yet in Jesus we see the ultimate picture of true humility as He humbles Himself to come and, at the cost of His life, serve those whose very existence depends upon Him. Jesus-like humility is characterized by selfless service and sacrificial obedience. Does your life and leadership reflect Jesus-like humility or self-exalting pride?
Who, being in very nature God, did not consider equality with God something to be used to his own advantage; rather, he made himself nothing by taking the very nature of a servant, being made in human likeness. And being found in appearance as a man, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to death— even death on a cross! —Philippians 2:6-8
Prayer: Jesus, in our humanity, we cannot live up to Your standard and example of humility. Transform our hearts, Lord, so that our lives reflect Jesus-like humility that seeks to serve instead of seeking to be served. In Your name we ask, amen.
