  • Hopelessly Devoted

    Blog | Sheryl Giesbrecht | March 16, 2017

I am a woman of many moods and they all require chocolate. If chocolate were prescribed for feelings, maybe dark chocolate would be given for occasional bouts of depression.  With financial trouble, possibly chewy caramel and nuts with milk chocolate, or for stress - semi-sweet chocolate with rice krispies. So many emotions and so many chocolates, so little time. But am I hopelessly devoted to chocolate? Hardly. Though today’s variety of chocolate enticements might offer me a temporary emotional escape, the chocolate hangover and extra pounds are definitely not worth the indulgence.

  • The Arc of Life

    Devotionals | March 15, 2017

The arc of life moves from one season to another. Spring turns to summer, summer to fall, fall to winter, winter to spring, in an endless cycle. Jobs, projects, ministry, and family life, all have their seasons. Life itself moves through seasons—from infancy to childhood, youth, young adulthood, middle age, and older adulthood—leading us into eternity. Each season, each setting, has its joys, lessons, and sorrows. As we walk with Jesus, He leads us into and through the changing seasons.

  • Time to Regroup

    Devotionals | March 13, 2017

What has been the big push in your life lately? Have you had a work or ministry project, a family crisis, a joyful event, a personal goal for which you have given your all? Perhaps the exhilarating outcome, while grand, has left you feeling exhausted. Perhaps the results were not what you hoped, prayed, and worked for, and exhaustion causes you to question whether it was worth it. Perhaps the work remaining feels overwhelming. When you find yourself exhausted, Jesus invites you to come away with Him. Take time to be refreshed physically, mentally, and spiritually.

  • Remember Whose You Are

    Devotionals | March 10, 2017

When the world is pushing hard against us, God calls us to remember. Remember who He is. Remember His character. Remember His love, faithfulness, and power. Remember whose we are. Remember who He shows Himself to be on the pages of Scripture and in the lives of His people. Remember who we are. We are His by creation and design. We are His children, created anew in Christ Jesus. We are His workmanship. Remember, then live into who He is, and who you are in Him.

  • Show Us Your Strength

    Devotionals | March 08, 2017

Where is God leading you? What does your day hold? Past success may tempt you to rely on your own strength, to think that you can control the future. Likewise, past failure may cause you to doubt your ability to successfully accomplish what lies ahead. Both perspectives are faulty, both rely on human reasoning and human strength. God alone holds the future, God alone can chart a course that leads to success. God alone has the power and strength we need. He will accomplish more than we imagine when we exalt Him only.

    Devotionals | March 06, 2017

It’s all His. Every part of life belongs to God. We are entrusted by Him with influence, position, resources, skill, even the energy to breathe. God is the owner; we are charged to invest and use what He has given us. Every aspect of our lives is to be lived to accomplish His purposes, not our own. What has He entrusted to you—a family, a job, a sphere of influence, a position of authority, an opportunity to serve others in His name? How does He want you to steward your life for His glory? Will He find you faithful?

  • Followers

    Devotionals | March 03, 2017

In a world where everyone wants to be a leader, being a follower is often looked down upon.  Yet none of us stands alone. Everyone follows someone. Peter and Andrew, James and John, and others chose to follow Jesus. Accepting His invitation changed their lives. What about you? Have you accepted Jesus’ invitation? Has becoming His follower transformed the focus of what you do? What difference will being His follower make in your life today?
