  • Leading the Unwilling

    Devotionals | June 12, 2015

How do we respond when people resist direction and insist on going their own way? No matter our leadership role, we all will face times when others do not agree with the direction we are moving. In these difficult situations, we are responsible to keep a close watch on our leadership motivations and actions. Jesus calls us to speak the truth in love, even when others do not respond as we desire.

  • How Husbands and Wives Can Lead Effectively Through Change

Blog | Robert and Lori Ferguson | June 11, 2015

There’s nothing as constant as change – but change strikes us all differently.

Some of us adapt quickly, moving forward effectively when changes appear. Others need time to process the change. Still others focus obsessively on the expenditure of resources needed to manage the change.

What happens to a husband and wife team when faced with change?

  • Seeing Like Jesus

    Devotionals | June 10, 2015

Everywhere Jesus went, He saw through the Father’s eyes. He saw people with pressing needs, religious leaders who needed to refocus on God’s priorities, and disciples who needed to be trained. More importantly, Jesus saw what the Father was doing in sending Him into the world. This prompted Him to speak words of truth, hope, guidance, and correction, to act with compassion and courage, and to press forward with His God-given mission. What do you see the Father doing? Who and what does He want you to see today? How does He want you to respond to what you see?

  • A Helper When We Fall

    Devotionals | June 08, 2015

As God’s people, we are not to live lives characterized by sin. Our lives are to be characterized by knowing Jesus Christ, the righteous one. Yet sin is a reality in this fallen world, and at times we will succumb to temptation. Perhaps we are prone to failing to lead in humility and God-grounded confidence. Perhaps we forego words of encouragement and loving correction, choosing instead to speak harsh words of judgment that stem from our own pride or fear.

  • Loving Like Jesus

    Devotionals | June 05, 2015

Grace, forgiveness, community, and encouragement are expressions of God’s love poured out to us. Stop and think: What difference do these expressions of His love make in your life? Who would you be without His love? Who are you becoming because of His love? How are you relating to others differently because of how you have experienced His love? Jesus had one overriding commandment for His disciples, that they would love one another as He had loved them.

    Leadership Starts with the Heart

    Blog | Phyllis Hennecy Hendry | June 03, 2015

What does your heart have to do with leadership?  In one word – everything.

The heart is “our why.” Within the heart lies the reason why we do what we do; it is our intention and motivation.  It is the core of who we are, so it has everything to do with everything.  Scripture tells us clearly, “Above all else, guard your heart, for it is the wellspring of life.”(Proverbs 4:23).

  • Family Matters

    Devotionals | June 03, 2015

After personally leading a successful campaign to return the Ark of the Covenant to Jerusalem, David “returned home to bless his family” (1 Chron. 16:43). Jesus, in the midst of His suffering on the cross, becoming the means of forgiveness for the sin of the whole world, gave His mother Mary into the care of the disciple whom He loved (Jn. 19:26-27). Are we as focused on living, loving, and leading like Jesus in our family relationships as we are in professional or ministry roles? Jesus clearly was.

  • Seasons of Rest

    Devotionals | June 01, 2015

David paints a picture of rest and refreshment in Psalm 23:1-2. We can imagine ourselves in the green pastures, see the sunlight glinting off the rippling water, and sense the shepherd nearby. Just a few phrases later, David speaks of dark valleys, lurking pressures and enemies, yet he finds comfort and courage in the Lord’s guidance, presence, and goodness. Seasons of rest are God’s provision to strengthen us for the challenging work of leading like Jesus. Take advantage of the seasons of rest He gives you, then renewed and refreshed, rise to lead, knowing that He goes with you.
